English contains some interesting
expressions related to gold.
For example, when a child is
especially good, we use the expression, "as good as gold."
Depending on one's culture, this could be applied to a quiet child
or, perhaps, a boy or girl who has done well in school.
A very good person, one who always
cares for and is concerned for others, is considered to have "a
heart of gold."
Finally, to be "worth its weight in
gold" is the easiest to understand of all. This week, gold traded
above 900 US dollars an ounce!
