The Name Game: Capitalization Rules

Does the game you play require capital letters? You might be surprised by some of the examples below. As a rule, most games are not capitalized. Games like checkers, chess or dominoes require no capital. However, when the name that is normally capitalized is part of the game’s name that changes.

For example, we have Chinese checkers, since Chinese is normally capitalized. In poker, we find a game called Texas hold’em, since Texas is a place that takes a capital letter.

Lastly, remember that games that are released commercially do take a capital. Thus, commercial games like Monopoly, Scrabble and Risk all take capital letters.
