Sleep On It!

A recent study published in New Scientist claims that "Complex decisions are best left to your unconscious mind to work out." In other words, the old common sense advice—sleep on it—is actually supported by brain research.

What you need to do is to consider the various parts of the complex task before you go to bed. Your unconscious mind will work away on the problem overnight. The article goes on to say that "the unconscious mind appears able to ponder over all the information and produce a decision that most people remain satisfied with." It also says that trying to force a decision results in an "unsatisfactory choice."

Why not try sleeping on it the next time you have a complex article or essay to write? It can't hurt and it most certainly could help. Sweet dreams!
