Microsoft Word Grammar Check?
Beware!

Microsoft Word has included a grammar check since 1997. Many of my students have mentioned using the grammar checking feature on their home computers. Indeed, some of them rely on it to make sure their papers are done well.

Well, should they? In a word, NO! Take a look at the first sentence from an article published in the Seattle Post Intelligencer on March 28, 2005: "Microsoft the company should big improve Word grammar check."

Do you see any errors in the sentence? I hope so. Now, would you believe that the sentence will pass the grammar check in Word? Yes, it will!

To read more about the problems with Word's grammar checking features, read the article, "A Word to the unwise -- program's grammar check isn't so smart."
