Looking Closely at Student Writers

The PALC.net web site features many excellent examples of student writing. This week's lesson looks at their work. During our classes we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of a number of writers featured on our pages.
 

Student Writers:

"My Father," by Jason (Demonstration paragraph for describing character)

Student Topic Sentence Examples (To review the rules for good topic sentences)

"Writing on the Poem, 'Freedom'" by Ada (Demonstration paragraph of definition and analysis)

"Depressing Vancouver Weather" and "Annoying Vancouver Rainy and Windy Season" by Ildiko and Sally. (Demonstration of vivid detail and strong topic sentences)

Homework:

Which student paragraph did you like the best? Give three reasons for your opinion. Make specific reference to the writers' words (quote). Write a paragraph of about 125 words.
