Black Elk Speaks: Autobiography
April 15, 2005

Today, we will begin working on a new reading, Black Elk Speaks. The reading will introduce us to writing an autobiography.

Today’s Class Work:

  1. Hand in your restaurant review to your teacher.
  2. Look at page 52 of your text. Discuss the meaning of “autobiography.”
  3. Review the vocabulary and “Relate to the Topic” sections. Work orally to discuss your answers with the whole class.
  4. Go over the section “Reading Strategy” and learn the meaning of the term “setting.”
  5. Read Black Elk Speaks with your teacher. Identify more vocabulary you may need to know. Practice your pronounciation.


 ¨     Reread pages 52 to 55.

 ¨     Make a list of ten vocabulary words. Write a sentence that makes the meaning of each vocabulary word very clear. Bring your sentences to class in two weeks, on April 29. NO class on April 22 due to a professional day.
