Last week, your assignment was to read the
poem, write a three-sentence summary, and write three sentences
using new vocabulary from the poem. Today, we will work to
understand the poem and learn some poetic
We’ll start with a vocabulary quiz to see how
well you’ve understood the new vocabulary in the poem.
The teacher will ask students to share their
three-sentence summaries for discussion. We will consider
whether the summaries are close in meaning to the poem.
From the poem, “Sympathy,” the teacher will
introduce and explain the following terms (and help you to
understand it better, too).
