The Poem, “Sympathy”

Last week, your assignment was to read the poem, write a three-sentence summary, and write three sentences using new vocabulary from the poem. Today, we will work to understand the poem and learn some poetic terms.

Vocabulary Quiz:

We’ll start with a vocabulary quiz to see how well you’ve understood the new vocabulary in the poem.

Class Discussion:

The teacher will ask students to share their three-sentence summaries for discussion. We will consider whether the summaries are close in meaning to the poem.

The Poem:

From the poem, “Sympathy,” the teacher will introduce and explain the following terms (and help you to understand it better, too).
