English 10
Paraphrase: Write it in Your Own Words

April 10, 2002

To paraphrase, according to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is a "a restatement of a text, passage, or work giving the meaning in another form."

In light of the recent plagiary scandals at Simon Fraser University and BCIT, it is important for any student to learn how to effectively restate material without plagiarizing.

This week, we will be using a worksheet from the Owl Online Writing Lab in order to learn more about and practice this essential skill. Students will work together to paraphrase a number of passages. Their results will be posted as an example for students to follow.
