Sound, Metaphor, and Structure

Note that students will receive a copy of the poem, "Bearhug," in class. In the meantime, check the questions below. Do you know the terms? If not, go to Poetry: Sound and More and try the 15 question quiz.

Group Questions

1. Did you notice any rhymes or other sound devices such as, alliteration, assonance or consonance? Give examples of what you find.

2. Identify two metaphors. Explain the comparisons.

3. The poem is both narrative and lyric. Can you explain why?

4. What is the poem's structure? How many lines? How many stanzas? Can you see other grammatical structures that repeat?
