This week, the students learned about Four
Ways to Begin (worksheet on essay introductions). What follows are
student and teacher examples of introductions done in class.
Technique Two: Justify my qualifications
As a teacher for the past twenty years, I
have had many occasions to deal with student cheating. One time itís a
plagiarized paper; another, itís someone looking at other studentsí
papers. Each incident was difficult and challenging to my professional
skills, but of one thing I am sure: a teacherís response is very
important since cheating is a behaviour that has wide-ranging effects.
Thesis: Cheating diminishes other students' accomplishments and thus
needs to be actively challenged.
Technique Four: Use striking contrast (student)
Sometimes cheating is not bad when we want
to increase our qualifications to write the essay. It is better to cheat
from a good writer and use some of his ways. It is not good to copy
exactly whatever somebody has done, but it is better to use some ideas
other people have had. We should justify and prove our qualifications
when we decide to write the essay. Thesis to follow.
Recent News Introduction for Essay on Cheating
Recently, the University of British Columbia
decided to use the turnitin.com Web
site to check for student plagiary. This site allows the professors to
find out easily if a student has copied by comparing the essay to a
database containing thousands of student papers. This example shows both
how serious and widespread the cheating problem is today. Thesis:
Cheating diminishes other studentsí accomplishments and thus needs to
be actively challenged.
Striking Contrast Introduction for Essay on
School is a second home for students, where
things usually go well. But sometimes, what we see on the surface is
different from what happens underneath. If anything goes wrong there we
should look at it seriously. For me, cheating is a big problem for any
stage of studying. Thesis: There are reasons for student cheating and
also there are solutions for that, too.
