Vivid Verbs
 by
Patricia

Well chosen words especially verbs will enhance your writing. Consider this sentence: The petite woman walks in the park. If you change the verb “walks” to “ambles”, you will create a more vivid image of the woman. However, if you use one of these verbs insteadstrides, stumbles, limps, races, or jogsyou will see a completely different picture.

We often rely on familiar verbs, but we shouldn’t. Your writing will be stronger if you think carefully about what you want to say and choose your verbs accordingly.
