Well chosen words especially verbs will enhance your
writing. Consider this sentence: The petite woman walks in the park. If you
change the verb “walks” to “ambles”, you will create a more vivid image of
the woman. However, if you use one of these verbs instead—strides,
stumbles, limps, races, or jogs—you will see a
completely different picture.
We often
rely on familiar verbs, but we shouldn’t. Your
writing will be stronger if you think carefully about what you want to say
and choose your verbs accordingly.
