Canadian Thanksgiving
Trudi's Weekly Feature

September is over and the fall weather has started. Leaves are changing colour. With October come thoughts of the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is a great time to share time with family and friends. Thanksgiving is also a time to think about all the things that are good in our lives and celebrate.

Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. This year the Thanksgiving holiday will be Monday, October 11th. It is different from American Thanksgiving in that we do not remember the Pilgrims but instead celebrate the harvest season.

Harvesting in Canada used to occur before harvesting in America. In Canada, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate with family and friends. It is a time to celebrate with good food too. Traditional foods include things like turkeys, yams, sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie.

Take the time to enjoy your family, friends, and food.

Happy Thanksgiving from The Pearson Adult Learning Centre teachers!
