Summer is a great time for visitors to Vancouver. There are lots of cheap and interesting places to visit, and there’s usually a dozen or more festivals and special events happening each week. The two main ways of cutting down the cost are to get discount coupons and to go to free or almost free places.

The most popular source for discount coupons is the entertainment book. You can find many 2-for-1 coupons that effectively halve your entrance and dining costs to the best places in town.

The Capilano Suspension Bridge, Science World, the Vancouver Aquarium, and the Whistler/Blackcomb chairlift are just some of the many discounted venues. ARC Open Studio Tour

There are an amazing variety of disciplines featured including painters, photographers, illustrators, storyboard artists, musicians, writers, sculptors, film-makers, textile artists, furniture makers and more! The BC Museum of Mining in Britannia Beach is hosting their annual Copper and Fire Celebration on Sunday August 14th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This inter-active event will feature renown artists who will demonstrate how they make their craft.

Included are blacksmiths, potters, glass blowers, painters, sculpture and jewelry makers. The event will also feature center stage with live performers, grand prize giveaway, craft table for kids, and gold panning with World Champion panner Yukon Dan. Deep Cove Daze

Deep Cove Daze rocks Panorama Park on August 28th with a fun filled day of music, arts, a beer garden, vendors, community groups, rides, food and fun in the scenic heart of Deep Cove. This beautiful location overlooks the bay with a beach, sitting areas, a play area for kids and lots of space to relax.

Members of the community from all age groups participate in a wide range of activities at Deep Cove Daze. Multiple stages with live music, dance and martial arts performances, various food and beverage concessions, world class GT air bike shows, beer gardens with a house band, a midway full of rides and many activities for children, over 50 artisans and local merchants and finally corporate, environmental and educational demo groups.

Cates Park Concert Series

When: Every Saturday from July 9 to August 20, 4-7pm
Where: Cates Park, North Vancouver

Popular Local Musicians are flocking to the Cates Park in Deep Cove this summer to play free summer concerts and help the Musart Cultural Society raise money for cancer research. The Musart Cultural Society has created a series of FREE outdoor summer concerts to create opportunity and exposure for local Lower Mainland artists, musicians, dancers and poets and a venue for the community to celebrate music and talented local acts.

Cates Park Concert Series is held at Cates Park in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, every Saturday from July 9th to August 20th from 4-7 pm. This year, Musart is taking this celebration of local music and working with the BC Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research.

All of the artists performing have generously donated their time and efforts to create a compilation CD entitled “Cates for Cancer”, with all proceeds going to cancer research. Volunteers will be on hand collecting additional donations for both the BC Cancer Agency and Musart.

Vancouver Chinatown Night Market

The street Night Market contains of booths with various merchandise including artistic handicrafts, creative gifts & decors, modern electronics, fashionable clothes, popular music CD, VCD, DVD, delicious snacks & ethnic food, etc.

Performances such as folk dance, singing, magic show, martial arts, lion dance, bands will be arranged during the Night Market. Tourists can enjoy their tour in the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market. They can shop from the hundred booths for gifts items, fashion, or modern electronics.

Besides, they can enjoy the multicultural performances. And even the best, they can participate in the game area and join the funny contest. Come down and enjoy the summer night of the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market.

The Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and Ecology Centre in North Vancouver offers a good free alternative to the pricey Capilano Suspension Bridge. Lynn Canyon or The Virtual Tourist

Check them out. If you don’t have visitors, become a tourist yourself in Vancouver. My family had a great day out at the Yaletown Car Festival topped with a brilliant Celebration of Light fireworks display at English Bay without paying a cent!
