A New Beginning—Again!
Renuka's Weekly Feature

Late last December, the discussion at the dinner table turned to New Year’s resolutions. Some people firmly decided that in the upcoming year, they would lose tens of pounds. Others vowed to become more organized. Some were determined to quit smoking, eat healthier, procrastinate less, or spend more time with the family. There is something about a new year that inspires people to change their lives in some ways so that in the coming year, they will be happier, skinnier, healthier, less stressed, more well-rounded, more thoughtful, or just plain better.

A new year is a fresh start. However, so is a new school term. We are lucky, as students and teachers, that we have another “new year” this September. The beginning of a school year or term gives us a chance to set new goals and make plans on how we will make the most of this new beginning. I remember that as a young girl, I was always excited to start a new school year. I had new pencils and erasers, a new outfit, and a new classroom and teacher. For some reason, the novelty of everything in my day stimulated me to take on the challenges of the new school year with determination and enthusiasm.

On Monday, September 8th, we will commence a new term of classes at the Pearson Adult Learning Centre. Time management, stress reduction, making new connections with students and teachers, or something different altogether—do you have any new goals for this upcoming school term?

To our new students, welcome to the Centre! To our returning students, welcome back! I am so pleased to be back and to share in this new beginning with you. I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals. Remember to ask for help from peers and teachers when you need it. We can work together to make this a pleasant and productive term for all of us.
