Christmas Giving
Jennifer's Weekly Feature

Christmas decorations are up in malls and independent stores everywhere, and Christmas commercials are regaling us with carols while exhorting us to spend, spend, spend!

And most of us will. Underlying the frantic buying activities is the best of us: a genuine spirit of generosity. There is a genuine desire to make others happy, to see our loved ones’ pleasure.

We do have a choice, though, as to how and where we spend our hard-earned money. So, early on, I want to make a suggestion. Instead of buying more “stuff” and accumulating item after item, let your heart do the buying this season.

There are many organizations to donate to, for example, World Vision Canada, the Salvation Army, The Toy Bank, The Food Bank and The Province newspaper’s Empty Stocking fund, where your gift can enrich the lives of others. This season, reach out to strangers, not stuff, and make a lasting difference!
