CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY –
A WORKSHOP SERIES FOR IMMIGRANT ADULT LEARNING CENTRE STUDENTS

 

All Pearson Adult Learning Centre students welcome. No registration necessary. Bring your lunch. Muffins and Beverages provided.

All workshops will take place 11:20a.m.12:20p.m. in Room 280, and will be led by Jane Osborne, Counsellor with the Adult Learning Centre, and Angela Sasso or Diane Willmann from Pacific Immigrant Resources Society

Tuesday, February 1st: Community Services
Find out about services and resources available to you in your community.

Tuesday, February 8th: Communication Skills
Learn more about how to communicate in Canadian culture.

Tuesday, February 15th: Communicating with your Government
Learn how our government system works and how to communicate with politicians and government staff.

Tuesday, February 22nd: School System, part 1
For parents who have children in school. Learn more about parent/teacher interviews and your child’s report cards.

Wednesday, February 23rd: School System, part 2
Learn about ways of being involved in your child’s school through Parent Advisory Committees (PAC), volunteering, and more.

Tuesday, March 1st: Assertiveness Skills
Find out how to communicate assertively, express yourself clearly, and be able to say “no”

Tuesday, March 8th: Workers' Rights
Gain more understanding of the human rights code, employment standards, and your rights in the workplace.

Tuesday, March 15th Tenant and Landlord Rights
If you are a tenant or a landlord, learn more about your rights and what to do if there are difficulties.

This project is jointly sponsored by The Pacific Immigrant Resources Society and the New Westminster School District with funding provided by the United Way of the Lower Mainland.
