Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia: A word associated with sound of animals or people or
machines. (P.M. class definition)
A pig, for example, says "oink".
A cat says, "meow". Fingernails on the blackboard go "screech".
A train goes "chug".
A fan "whirrs" or "whizzes".
A bee "buzzes". A mosquito "whines" and little children also,
especially when they want a candy bar!
A cow "moos" when it wants to be milked.
A dog says "woof" when it wants something to eat.
A pigeon "coos", but at night this can keep me awake.
A mouse "squeaks" when it wants some cheese.
The leaves "crunch" under my feet, and I see the wind moving the branches of the
trees.
